Greetings from Nicaragua
Mario Salinas, Nicaragua's new Minister for Tourism, met with major investors and developers in February at an event organized by the newly established Association of Nicaraguan Investors and Developers (ANID).
The Minster underlined the importance of tourism to Nicaragua's economy and spoke about improving the infrastructure in key destinations, strengthening fiscal incentives and expanding, yet further, Nicaragua's attractive retirement program. At the meeting the development community and Nicaragua's tourism agency, INTUR, pledged to work together to market Nicaragua internationally.
Profits with principles
A second initiative that drew widespread support was the launch of a new social investment fund - where all parties to a real estate transaction (buyers, realtors, developers, lawyers, sellers, insurers) can participate in supporting and strengthening local communities. We will be covering the fund in more detail in future newsletters.
Social responsibility is becoming the watch word for development in Nicaragua - and for good reason. The result will be higher standard real estate and hospitality projects, stronger, more cohesive, local communities and, ultimately, increased value of property investments.
Tourism underpins real estate activity
February has been a busy month for us. Tourists have arrived in large numbers coinciding with strong real estate interest, particularly for property in and around Granada and San Juan del Sur.
February saw the launch of
Cala Azul a real estate project offering oceanfront townhouses and condos close to San Juan del Sur at a very competitive price point. 12 units have already sold as investors recognise the project as a good candidate for some serious returns.
Closer to Granada we have seen interest in hotel sites on the Granada-side of Laguna de Apoyo to serve the growing tourism market in this "heartland" area. The demand for real estate close to good surf breaks continues and we have built a dedicated
surf real estate page on our website to celebrate the coming of age of Nicaragua as a surfing destination. See Ashley Blaylock's
blog post on the recent surf competition to catch up on surfing news.
It's a great time to be in the country. Join our March real estate tour or contact us to set up a time to view quality real estate opportunities and lifestyle buys.
Yours sincerely,
