Overview: Casa Llanta is more than just a community with a conscience, it is the smartest use of natural resources in Nicaragua and completely off grid.
Description: Casa Llanta is a passive solar home made of natural and recycled materials. Solar panels collect the sun’s energy which is stored and used to power all electrical devices in the home. Water catchment systems take advantage of Nicaragua’s high quantity of rainfall by keeping it in large cisterns, while water reclamation systems process used water and transport it to a green house filled with fruit trees and vegetable gardens. The walls of Casa Llanta have been built from tires and filled with pressed earth. For walls requiring less structural stability, adobe and recycled bottles are used. The primary construction materials used are both readily available and in gross access in Nicaragua. The project employs all local community members and educates them in the skills of sustainable building.
Tucked away in the rolling hills of El Carizal just 10 minutes south of San Juan del Sur, this sustainable housing community offers unique custom homes featuring distant ocean and valley views.
This development is raising the bar on environmental consciousness and social responsibility by providing logical solutions for the landscape and climate, in addition to serving and educating the neighboring communities. By utilizing and preserving Nicaragua's unique natural resources, this self-sufficient community is bound to realize greater appreciation of land values while enjoying freedom and peace of mind.
