How to side-step the financial crisis

A select group of forward thinking investors and entrepreneurs are quietly expanding their horizons beyond the US.

A special event with Mike Young on January 17-18, 2009

You can’t have missed the headlines over the past few weeks "Citigroup to slash 52,000 jobs.” "Recession is going to be long and painful." "US shares fall to five year low.” “US mortgage meltdown.” Things are turbulent out there, and the question on everyone's lips is "How will this affect me?"

Well, one thing is clear, change is coming...

The bickering over what the government should be doing to bolster economic performance - jump in and take action to save the troubled institutions, or step aside and let the market sort it out - will continue for a while.

We're more interested in the private debate going on inside people's heads. "How can I maintain or even improve my standard of living?" "Where can I put my money where I get a good return?" "Where can I start a business that will keep my earnings up?" "How can I live the lifestyle I was planning in my retirement?" "Do I have to give up on my dream of an ocean-side retirement home?"

Are you on the offense or the defense?

A few weeks ago, we accompanied a couple from New England on a visit to the central Pacific coast of Nicaragua.   Their retirement assets were shrinking and they could no longer afford to relocate to Florida as planned. But they didn't want to give up on their dream of an ocean-side, golf-front retirement home.  So they went out looking for an alternative, and thinking about repositioning their assets and expanding their horizons beyond US shores.

We showed them a range of beach front, ocean view and golf opportunities at prices far below what you can find elsewhere in Central America, in a country where you can enjoy a cost of living up to 60% less than in the U.S.

Nestled between an 18-hole championship golf course and the Pacific coast sands was something that caught their eye…

A perfectly designed two bedroom house on two floors with a magnificent ocean view and swimming pool.   Their back yard is right on the fourth fairway of an 18-hole, 7,060-yard, par-71 championship golf course designed by Mike Young (we’ll be telling you more about Mike in a moment) and, around the corner, a golf club house and restaurant, beach club, fitness center, health spa and equestrian center.

The home is set against a backdrop of rolling hills that glow at sunset and framed by dramatic rocky outcrops.  This is a world-class ocean setting.  Easily the same caliber of sand and coast as you can get farther north in California, but for a fraction of the cost.

So how much is that house?

At $209,500 the couple from New England didn't have to give up on their dream of an ocean side retirement home – with championship golf, equestrian center, spa and gym facilities, medical center, clubhouses and a surf break within walking distance.

exotic florida on the cheapThey will soon be living in one of the most beautiful spots on the planet.  But they’re not going to be worried about stretching their retirement dollars.  IMF Purchasing Power Parity figures show that your dollar goes further in Nicaragua than in any Central American country.  They’ll be able keep their monthly expense to under $950.  This includes food, private help, transportation, utilities, Cable TV, broadband Internet and entertainment.

Make no mistake, this home is located within what is sure to become the finest luxury resort community in the country, set on 1,500 acres of prime beach front land.  Just next door, part of the same community is a neighborhood called “Cumbres” – already 90% sold out – with million dollar homes currently under construction.

We’re so excited about what is on offer here that we’re planning a special event on 17th and 18th January 2009 in the company of Mike Young, award winning golf designer at Montecristo. We’ll tell you more about the event - and who you’ll meet - in a moment.

First we wanted to give you some feedback from current owners at Montecristo.

Here’s what they’re saying:

“I looked at this as an investment but the more I spoke with Lori and realized the vision that she and Jorge have for the Montecristo "community", the more I want to be there to be a part of it. I am hoping to spend time there in the next few months.”  Joe and Mary Dziedzic, owners at Montecristo

“We spent two weeks this Christmas traveling through Nica, and somewhere in and amongst all that touring, we found the perfect plot of land - one with a gorgeous view of the ocean and a breeze that would surely bring a smile to your face.   We were so impressed with the Estrada's vision for the Cumbres de Montecristo community, and immediately felt like that was a place we would one day like to call 'home'.” Kim Gruia and Jeff Farrington, owners at Montecristo

“Yvonne and I currently reside in the Kansas City area, and we’re looking forward to starting construction on our new villa as soon as possible.  We are in our upper 40’s, and this adventure will fulfill Yvonne’s lifelong dream of living near the ocean (I’m also excited to live out that dream as well!).”    Steve and Yvonne Bennett, owners at Montecristo

“We are buying Lot 24 at Montecristo because we favor the idea of a 'community' as opposed to a 'resort’; because the weather is great and the scenery spectacular; because the people of Nicaragua are friendly and make us feel welcome, and because we are impressed with Lori and Jorge Estrada and believe they can and will fulfill their vision of Montecristo...and when they do, they will have created a wonderful legacy for us to leave our grandchildren.”
Agnes and Edward Brady, owners at Montecristo

“This winter we hope to start building our second home in Montecristo in the nose-bleed section called E-2 with great views of the cliffs and beaches below. We also look forward to meeting our new neighbors as they settle into this coastal community called Cumbres de Montecristo.”
David and Marcia Steckler, owners at Montecristo

“It cannot be overstated how significant it is to “feel” comfortable when dealing with a potential business partner.  Right away, our correspondence was informative and open, and I felt we became fast friends.  There was a greater degree of trust that I felt that I honestly hadn’t had with anyone before.”  Vinne Apicella, owner at Montecristo

“I think the property is magnificent with the kind of views I dream about.  After meeting Lori and Jorge I felt very comfortable investing overseas with them.”  Sheryl & Lyn Lott, owners at Montecristo

“We are all so very happy for the opportunity to become owners of part of the spectacular coastline in the beautiful country of such wonderful people, Nicaragua.”  Eric & Jobe Franck, owners at Montecristo

“...during my visit to all the sites, it became clear to me that Montecristo offered exactly what we were looking for – beautiful property, several amenities, proximity to Managua, and perhaps the most important aspect - trust in Jorge and Lori and their community inspired vision.”  Todd, Stephanie, Kyler and Kaden Logan, owners at Montecristo

“We originally came to Nicaragua looking for investment opportunities. However, after meeting Jorge and Lori and several Montecristo property owners, we decided this is where we wanted to build our winter home.”
Jack and Margaret Griffin, owners at Montecristo

“After meeting with the Estrada's and seeing Costa Azul, it didn't take long before we both knew we had found what we have been looking for. The place is so peaceful, with its virgin shores and beautiful people.  We look forward to surfing, golfing and the other great activities that Montecristo is planned to offer.” Eric and Rebecca Synder, owners at Montecristo

You won’t know just how good you’ve got it until you’re standing on the first tee at The Golf Club at Montecristo

This championship-caliber course – designed by award-winning architect Mike Young – will stretch for 7,060-yards past river and ocean, climbing up into the mountains for breathtaking ocean views along the back nine. With over 300 feet of elevation change, this par-71 will be as challenging as it is beautiful.

Young’s designs have garnered much acclaim in the sport.  His courses have been nominated as some of the “Best New Courses in America” by Golf Digest and the Audubon Signature Sanctuary Program.  He’s designed more than 40 courses in 5 different countries, yet calls the Montecristo site “one of the best I’ve ever had to work with.

There is a sense of energy here - the place is alive

Every time we visit, we see over 100 workers bringing the master plan to life.  Lori and Jorge are not relying on ’financing’ to build out the Montecristo community.  There’s no vulnerability here from tightening lines of credit.  Their mantra of “no debt” will serve them well in the coming years.  Like the way Jorge builds his foundations, here at Montecristo, the fundamentals are strong.

With special offers, promotions and discounts being offered across the world, it’s more important than ever to focus on quality

Don’t be lured into copy-cat offerings and bandwagon investments where secondary tier developers seek to replicate the success of first movers by building similar products en masse.  In this market it’s more important than ever to look only at investments backed up by strong brands, delivering quality amenities and infrastructure - that are already outperforming their competitors.

Look beyond special offers and promotions and focus in on the developer’s balance sheet. After all, that is exactly what you would do if you were buying at home.

A special two-day event with an impressive cast of visionaries

Come and see for yourself in January, in the company of Mike Young and Jorge & Lori Estrada.  We’ve put together a full itinerary for this special two day event.   You’ll also get to meet Tuey Murdock, Vice President Latin America for First American Title Insurance Company, Sergio Corrales, Partner with Attorneys Garcia & Bodan and Steering Committee members of ANID (The Association of Nicaraguan Investors and Developers).   And of course, Mike, Lori and Jorge will be on hand over the full two days to go over the detail of the master plan and golf course.

There’ll also be time to savor the beauty of Nicaragua.  You can choose to visit the beautiful colonial town of Granada (the oldest city in the Americas), drive to the edge of an active volcano at Masaya and peer in (if you dare), or pick up some local handicrafts at the bustling craft market.  You’ll be witnessing first hand how, in Nicaragua, you can live more luxuriously, but for far less.

The two-day event starts on 17th January 2009.   Just book your ticket to arrive in Managua, the day before - on the 16th - and we’ll make the arrangements from there.   We’ll be pleased to cover your meal expenses over the course of the two days.

What’s more, if you do decide to purchase, Lori and Jorge have offered to refund the cost of your flight and hotel.*

We think you’ll like what you see... Why?

Because Lori and Jorge are delivering exactly the kind of quality product that the market needs right now.
